Michel’s illustration career was officially recognised when he won the Gibson Award for Best New Zealand Comic Artist in 2006. Winning fulfilled a long-held dream as he had wanted to be an artist ever since picking up his first comic at the age of 5. Passionate about many different forms of storytelling, Michel loves to digest as much visual language as he can through vehicles such as film, television, animation and video games. He then filters these visual narratives through his storyboards and artwork.
His experiences as a professional wrestler also enhance his work, identified in his strong characters and brash actions. The final result being bold dynamic visuals that tell a story with realism and conviction.
