After working for some of South Africa’s best advertising agencies, we’re happy that award-winning art director Minky Stapleton has made the moved to New Zealand and freelance illustration. A multifaceted talent, she has a range of styles from serious to silly, all with a heavy dash of dark humour.

Jeremy Kyle‘s star is quickly rising. A master at depicting motion and emotion, his incredible talent has been picked up by the Chicago Bulls. Jeremy’s latest series portrays Jordan, Butler and Rose in effortless free flow using his clever combination of watercolour, loose hand scribbling and precision line work. The campaign marks the 50th anniversary of the Bulls and expresses their most iconic moments in playing history.

Unitec NZ recently searched for a concept driven artist to illustrate a range of events they had planned this semester. They couldn’t look past illustrator Justine Beckett whose quirky, clean, bright style cleverly engages the viewer on a direct emotional level.

Sydney agency Mr Wolf recently engaged the skills of illustrator Josh Dykgraaf for their client Taylors Wines. Being included among the top 5 winerys in the world for two consecutive years required a suitably epic illustration. We think Josh has done the honour justice.

The clever folk at Barnes Catmur & Friends recently commissioned storyboarder Jack Chadwick to create a series of 44 energy saving tips for Meridian Energy. The handy ‘Save the World From Your Sofa’ booklet with it’s humorous illustrations is downloadable from the Meridian Energy website.

Illustrator Josh Dykgraaf was recently flown to Ireland courtesy of Atomic Agency Dublin. His brief was to capture iconic imagery in order to create an epic series of intricate 3D landscapes for KPMG. The campaign consists of eight images in total, each running for one month on billboards throughout Ireland.

Henrietta Harris‘ striking watercolour of Peter Ellis graces the cover of North&South magazine. It’s been almost 25 years since the first claims were made of child abuse at the Christchurch Civic Creche and he is still trying to clear his name.

With a Max Thompson cover and illustrations by Kieran Rynhart, Ivy Niu, and Rebecca Ter Borg, October’s illustration issue of Metro Magazine makes an appealing collectors edition for editor Simon Wilson’s last Metro.

Fly agency and Sky Television wanted a powerful way to represent the 25 years Sky has entertained New Zealanders. Intrigued by the 2 and 5 being mirror opposites of each other, they engaged a team of IR artists to create artworks depicting the dichotomy of emotions that TV viewing evokes. Michel Mulipola, James Stewart, Gareth Jensen and Toby Morris were each handed different briefs, their unique illustrative processes were filmed and can be seen here.

Mango Melbourne and client Disney Australia recently commissioned Max Thompson (above), Josh Dykgraaf (below) and Glenn Thomas (further below) to each develop an illustration that revealed their personal vision of Tomorrowland. Promoted through Disney’s social media channels these works take the viewer into magical and futuristic lands.

Illustrator Henrietta Harris was commissioned by Universal Music to create a portrait of Sam Smith as a gift following his recent trip to New Zealand. The stunning watercolour was then used by Smith as his profile pic on Instagram and Twitter, becoming a huge hit with his 3.6 million followers.

Clever Shine Limited art director Justin Wood and our Glenn Thomas have collaborated on Mac’s new look across their range of beers and ciders. As well as creating fresh identities for their classics, there are some new heroes to be discovered like Three Wolves, named after the three hops that make up this striking pale ale.
