Born and raised in the beautiful Wairarapa, Sam gravitated towards photography after becoming fascinated with stark landscapes, diverse beauty, physical form and the world of fashion. After completing his Fine Arts studies at Massey University he headed to Shanghai to fully immerse in the complex, vibrant city he called home for ten years.
Drawing inspiration from his love of music and art, he injects a soulful ‘imperfectness’ into his image making. Sam is part of a new generation of image makers that believe in a new authenticity.
Now back in New Zealand, Sam brings an urban anti-glamour aesthetic to the Australasian market. His images reflect spontaneous moments of rawness, realism and minimalism. This simplified and stripped back approach rejects the over-produced sterile images that are all too homogenous and stereotyped and are directive to a new vision of individuality.
